Newport News Williamsburg International Airport
Travelers in the coastal region of Virginia are in luck. The Newport News Williamsburg International Airport, along with the Norfolk International Airport, offer a wonderful variety of air travel services. After the Peninsula Airport Commission was developed in 1946, 924 acres of land from an old World War II US Army base near Newport News in the Virginia Beach area was developed for Patrick Henry Airport.
By 1949 the airport offered commercial flights via Capital Airlines and Piedmont Airlines. Throughout the years, the airport expanded with a terminal building, control tower, extensions to the runways and additional commercial airlines.
By 1990, the airport was renamed Newport News Williamsburg International Airport. Passengers in need of a commercial flight to Orlando, Atlanta, Denver, Charlotte or Philadelphia can do so, via Allegiant Air, Delta Air Lines, Frontier Airlines and US Airways. Airport terminal amenities include free Wi-Fi internet access, dining, car rentals and last minute items in the news and gift shop.
