Norfolk International Airport
Travelers in the Portsmouth, Williamsburg, Hampton, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Suffolk, Newport News and Norfolk areas, have a wonderful local airport at their service. The Norfolk International Airport has provided aviation services since it was established in 1938, as the Norfolk Municipal Airport. During World War II, the airport was used by the United States Army Air Corps, for the Norfolk Fighter Wing.
Upon completion of the war, the airport was used for commercial and general aviation. During the 1950s, the airport became one of the busiest airports in the country. Many improvements to the Norfolk airport have been made throughout the years, including the addition of a 243,000 square foot arrivals building, a covered parking garage, runway improvements, renovations to the terminal lobby, additional terminal restaurants and one of
Virginia's most efficient air cargo facilities. Passengers flying to Dallas/Fort Worth, Miami, New York, Atlanta, Minneapolis, Boston, Detroit, Cincinnati, Tampa, Orlando, Baltimore, Chicago, or Washington-Dulles, can do so via the five major airlines.
