Virginia Tech is a public, land-grant university in Blacksburg, VA. Established in 1872, the school is officially named Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. It is most often referred to as, simply Virginia Tech.
Originally, the school was named the Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College, then in 1896, they added "and Polytechnical Institute" to the end. From 1944 through 1970, the school was just known as Virginia Polytechnic Institute.
