Head to Arlington and Explore the Campus if Marymount University
Northern Virginia is home to Marymount University.
Your visit into northern Virginia will yield a wealth of fun and interesting experiences. From a quick trip into DC, to plenty of excellent local attractions, you're sure to create a bevy of long-lasting memories. One area attraction visited by many visitors each year is Marymount University. While a university campus isn't the first thing many travelers think of when planning a day of sight seeing, there's plenty to do and see on and around Marymount.
Found in Arlington, Marymount was established in 1950 as a two-year women's college, and by 1986 it was fully co-ed. Marymount University is a private school.
With nearby cities like Alexandria, Falls Church, and McClean, you'll find plenty in the area to do – but before you head out, plan for an informative and pleasant campus tour of Marymount. Check out some of the historic sites on campus like the Rose Bente Lee Ostapenko Hall, Gerard Phelan Hall, and the Emerson G. Reinsch Library and Auditorium. Being a Catholic school, you'll also note the existence of the Chapel of the Sacred Heart of Mary.
After a morning spent viewing the Marymount campus, head to explore the area. In McClean you can enjoy some time at the Great Falls National Park, and your tour of Alexandria will yield a long list of exciting attractions to check out. From Gadsby's Tavern Museum, to the Old Presbyterian Meeting House, and the George Washington Masonic National Memorial, you can't go wrong while exploring Arlington.
In Falls Church, you can head for The State Theater, a premier destination for lovers of the stage performances. There should always be time set aside to check out the actual Falls Church, which lent its name to the city.
Just west of McClean you'll discover the pleasant city of Fairfax – visit the Fairfax Museum & Visitor Center, the National Firearms Museum, or the popular George Mason University Center for the Arts.
Back at Marymount University, sports fans can rest easy knowing there's plenty to see in this arena, too. Competing within the NCAA Division III and the Capital Athletic Conference, Marymount University fields competitive varsity teams in basketball, lacrosse, soccer, swimming, volleyball, and even cross-country.
