Visiting Northern Virginia
Northern Virginia emerges from the cold season to welcome spring visitors. Alexandria and Arlington bustle with the activity of the US Capital – but it's not all suits and serious business this season. Communities all along the Potomac promise plenty of fun for the whole family.
Vacationers would be remiss not to get out and explore the Capital region's countless iconic attractions. Arlington is home to points of interest like Arlington National Cemetery, the John F. Kennedy Gravesite, and the United States Air Force Memorial.
Meanwhile, neighboring Alexandria boasts must-sees like Gadsby's Tavern Museum and the Old Presbyterian Meeting House. All of these attractions are best experienced on foot, and a brisk spring day is the perfect opportunity.
On February 15th, visitors can get an even closer look inside Gadsby's Tavern Museum. The 2016 Gadsby's Tavern Museum Parade Day Open House is a day full of festivities, including a free parade and tour of the museum. It all starts at 11 a.m.
Explorations into northern Virginia's rich past continue with Historic Garden Week 2016, April 23rd through 30th. The Falls Church hosts this popular annual event, where visitors will be invited to tour and view some of the county's most beautiful and historic gardens at various private homes.
For those looking to enrich their northern Virginia visit with a little culture, why not an evening at the ballet? On April 16th, the 2016 Moscow Festival Ballet Presents "Giselle" at the George Mason University Center for the Arts in Fairfax City. Don't delay – tickets for the Russian classic are on sale now and the show is expected to sell out.
