Even as winter chills set in, Richmond and surrounding central Virginia communities welcome visitors with a wealth of ways to have fun, both indoors and outdoors. Special events, community festivals, and family-friendly activities – there’s a little something for everyone in central Virginia this season.
One of the easiest ways to Richmond its collection of unique attractions is by embarking on a scenic driving tour. The Virginia Battlefields Tour explores must-see sites like the Richmond National Battlefield Park, Colonial National Historical Park, Petersburg National Battle, and many others.
What do you get someone who has everything? The Bizarre Bazaar’s 41st Christmas Collection solves that problem when it returns to Richmond International Raceway on December 1st. The facility’s four exhibition buildings fill with over 500 juried purveyors of peculiar potential presents, making it easy to that special something this year.
The lights are on at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden, south of Glen Allen. The Dominion GardenFest of Lights 2017 features over 500,000 holiday lights, botanical decorations, model trains and family fun. GardenFest lights up the botanical gardens through January 9, 2017.
The holiday festivities continue with the 2017 City of Fairfax Festival of Lights and Carols Saturday December 3rd in historic downtown Fairfax, Old town and Old Hall. Festivities include lighting of tree, caroling, food and drink, and more, starting at 10 a.m.
Over in Manassas, the 2017 Holidays on the Lawn fest bring tons of holiday cheer to the Manassas Museum Lawn. Drinks, carols, and more holiday traditions all start at 6 p.m. Not to be left out, Mount Vernon puts its own spin on the holidays at the Mount Vernon Memorial with fireworks, reenactments, local choirs, holiday music, and more. It all gets underway at 5:30 p.m. and runs December 16th and 17th.
