Visiting Richmond & Central Virginia

Summer in Central Virginia surely means a visit to Kings Dominion. This is the season for a visit to Hanover County, north of Richmond, for the rides, games and Water Park at Kings Dominion. Active Military are honored with free admission to Kings on the Fourth of July. Visitors wanting a bit more than Kings Dominion amusement rides and features can join KingsFest 2013 June 27th to 29th to enjoy three days of Christian music. Enjoy the top names in gospel music at Kings Dominion at JoyFest July 20th. There is plenty to discover on a visit to Richmond and Central Virginia.

For a unique challenge, the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg hosts Defy This – Indoor Ultra Tri 2013. Compete as an individual or on a team on June 8th with a 2.5-mile pool swim, 112-mile stationary bike ride and 26.2-mile treadmill run. Presented by Off Da Couch Training in Fredericksburg, the Indoor Ultra Tri proceeds benefit Safe Harbor.

Visitors to Fredericksburg check the schedule for the Sounds of Summer concert series at the Fredericksburg Area Museum and Cultural Center. Through summer the Fredericksburg Museum hosts local and regional performers including Air Force Rhythm in Blue, Love Canon, and Air Force Blue Aces. Enjoy the free Friday evening concerts at Market Square at the corner of Princess Anne and William Streets.

Music lovers traveling to Richmond won't want to miss the 2013 Richmond Jazz Festival August 9th through 11th. Held at historic Maymont Park in Richmond, the jazz festival showcases the talents of over 30 local, regional and national performers. Spend a warm August evening enjoying the music at the Richmond Jazz Festival at Maymont.

Rocketts Landing, south of downtown Richmond, hosts the third annual Richmond International Dragon Boat Festival August 10th. Taking advantage of the James River which runs through downtown Richmond, the 2013 Dragon Boat Festival is a delightful combination of urban and natural environments. August in Richmond is ideal for spending time by the river.
