Visiting Richmond & Central Virginia
Just west of downtown Richmond, the Boulevard Historic District is primed for a relaxing stroll this spring. History buffs and fans of classic architecture will have much in which to delight – structures like the Home For Needy Confederate Women exemplify the Colonial Revival style found throughout the district.
Music is in the air over Richmond this season. The Classic Amphitheater at the Richmond Raceway Complex hosts the 2015 Stone Soul Music & Food Festival on June 6th, drawing big crowds with headliners like Faith Evans and Future.
The same weekend, the 2015 Dinwiddie Music Festival brings three days of bluegrass to the Richmond suburb of Dinwiddle’s own Virginia Motorsports Park, June 4th through 6th. Headlining acts include Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder and Rhonda Vincent & the Rage.
Dig even further in to history, art, and a variety of cultures by paying a visit to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, located right on Boulevard. Spring and summer’s special exhibits include Van Gogh, Manet, and Matisse: The Art of the Flower, which runs now through June 28th.
Enjoy delicious food and wine samples provided by some of Alexandria's most renowned restaurants on June 27th, when Alexandria's Food & Wine Festival returns for its 2015 iteration. The event is held at Oronoco Bay Park from 12 p.m to 6 p.m., and the fun includes live entertainment, arts and craft vendors, and activities for the kids as well.
What better way to spend a sunny spring day than at the ballpark? The future MLB stars of the Richmond Flying Squirrels go to bat at the Diamond, one of Minor League Baseball’s moved revered stadiums. Check the schedule during your Richmond-area visit – home games are select days through the end of August.
