Visiting Virginia Beach & Norfolk | Fall 2014
It’s cooling off in Virginia Beach and Norfolk, but it’s not too late to get out and enjoy a variety of fun activities, festivals, and other special events this fall. Virginia Beach hosts the 2014 International Sandsculpting Championship on the Virginia Beach Board Walk from September 26th to October 5th. The signature event for the Neptune Festival and Boardwalk Weekend, the competition draws some of the best talent in the world, sure to wow spectators young and old with countless unbelievable creations.
Craft beer culture is burgeoning all over America and Virginia Beach is no different. The 2014 Virginia Beach Craft Beer Festival is held October 18th and 19th at the 24th Street Park at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. Sample the carefully crafted creations of over 50 regional breweries while enjoying live music and entertainment.
Norfolk wine makers keep the pours flowing on October 18th and 19th, when the 27th Annual Town Point Virginia Wine Festival fills Town Point Park, on the shores of the Elizabeth River in downtown Norfolk. Attendees can pair gourmet food offerings with a variety of Virginia-made wines, whether freshly harvested or aged to perfection. The celebration also includes live entertainment.
Families looking for some unique Halloween fun can board the Pirates, Monsters, and Mermaids Halloween Cruise on the Spirit of Norfolk. Journey from the Westside Marina down the historic Elizabeth River and enjoy prime skyline views of landmarks like Naval Station Norfolk, along with pirate-, mermaid-, and monster-themed entertainment. There will even be a costume parade and special goodie bags for kids.
It likely won’t be the quintessential white Christmas, but Virginia Beach still does the holidays right. The 2014 McDonald’s Holiday Lights at the Beach celebration brings the spirit of the season to the Boardwalk, starting November 21st. Bring the little ones down to meet Santa and his elves and delight in festively lit fish, dancing dolphins, and playful porpoises surrounding a 40-foot Christmas tree.
Then, on December 6th, the 2014 Holiday Parade at the Beach dazzles crowds with lighted floats, fire trucks, dance groups and more. Get your spot early – the parade starts moving at 5:30 p.m.
