Visiting Virginia Beach & Norfolk

Make Virginia Beach part of your fall travel plans. There’ll be a wealth of late summer and early autumn fun for you and whole family to enjoy. From Chincoteague Island at the very north of the VA coast, to the metropolitan fan fare of Norfolk, you’ll be treated to a world-class array of events, festivals, sporting events, and more.

Before the late summer ends and yields to the cooler fall temperatures along Virginia Beach, make your way to the 2016 NAS Oceana Air Show. On September 10th and 11th, you’ll be treated to an aerial display of stunt flights, choreographed air concerts, and more – all conducted by the U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels, the GEICO Skytypers, and plenty more.

From Williamsburg, you’ll want to make the short drive south into Virginia Beach on October 21st and 22nd for the annual FilFest. Celebrate the Filipino-American culture of the area at the Town Center over two days with live music, a bounty of authentic food, and cultural dance performances.

For sports fan, the fall often means it’s time to celebrate college football excitement, and the Virginia coast offers up some excellent and thrilling options. On November 5th, make your way to Foreman Field at S.B. Ballard Stadium in Norfolk and watch as the Old Dominion Monarchs take on the Marshall Thundering Herd at 7 p.m. And on the very next Saturday, November 12th, you can cheer-on the Monarchs when they face the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles at 3:30 p.m.

This fall travel season along the Virginia coast, you’ll have an eclectic batch of live music performances to check out. On October 8th, head for the American Theatre in Hampton to see Julie Fowlis live on stage at 8 p.m. On October 29th, start your Halloween celebration early at the Hampton Coliseum when you can see hip-hop and R&B legends like Ginuwine, Maze, Frankie Beverly, and more. The beats drop at 7:30 p.m.

Be sure your fall visit to the Virginia coast includes an exploration of Newport News. On October 7th and 8th, you’ll have a chance to see Fame - The Musical live on stage at the Ferguson Center for the Arts. This classic Broadway hit will feature one performance on Friday the 7th at 8 p.m, and two on the 8th – 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.
