Visiting Western Virginia
Western Virginia is at its most vibrant in the summertime. From Wise to Danville to Winchester, communities throughout Appalachian Mountains are gearing up for a summer filled with countless special events, festivals, and activities.
Downtown Harrisonburg is the destination for an authentic Virginia Fourth of July Celebration. Valley Fourth 2015 begins with the morning charity run, followed by a day of fun in the park. The evening parade begins at 5 p.m. and the party begins at Turner Pavilion with food, beverages, and entertainment. Then, enjoy live, patriotic music while the fireworks show wraps up the day.
Western Virginia may not have a Major League Baseball team of its own, but that doesn’t mean Lynchburg visitors can’t enjoy a day at the ballpark. The future big-league stars of the Lynchburg Hillcats go to bat at Calvin Falwell Field in Lynchburg through the end of August.
Roanoke baseball fans are in luck too. Head down to Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium, east of Roanoke in Salem, to enjoy America’s Pastime. Check the schedule during your visit – the Salem Red Sox host home games through the end of August as well.
The Virginia Horse Center in Lexington hosts the 2015 Rockbridge Regional Fair & Farm Show July 15th through 18th. The Lexington Community and Farm Bureau collaborate to present the fair and farm show, which features an antique and hot lick tractor pull, rides, games, and live entertainment, along with the farm show and exhibitions by DYNO Modern Muscle Motorsports.
It’s almost time for the 38th Annual Rockbridge Community Festival. Sponsored by the Lexington-Rockbridge Jaycees, Lexington Kiwanis Club, and the Lexington Rotary Club, the festivities take over Main Street in downtown Lexington, bringing hundreds of vendors selling handmade arts and crafts and more.
