Visiting Western Virginia
Spring sees western Virginia fill with life as communities across the Appalachian Mountains invite visitors to join in all sorts of special events, festivals, and outdoor activities. From Winchester and Luray, to Danville and Wytheville, there are plenty of ways for the whole family to have fun in Appalachia this spring.
It’s a great time to get back out on the links, and western VA is home to numerous first-rate golf courses. Wolf Creek Golf & Country Club is especially nice for Wytheville visitors, and players in Roanoke and Hillsville will agree the 18-hole, par 72 course is worth the drive. Further north, Caverns Country Club Golf Course is the ideal place for Luray, Harrisonburg, and Ruckersville visitors to work on their swing.
After you work up a thirst, why not cool off with some crisp suds at the 2016 Gnarly Hops & Barley Fest? On April 30th, downtown Culpeper hosts an afternoon of craft beers, local food offerings, live music and entertainment, and activities just for the little ones. The taps start flowing at 1 p.m.
Culpeper keeps the fun going with the 2016 Culpeper Downtown 3rd Thursday Summer Concert Series, May 19th through August 18th. On the third Thursday each month this summer, the Depot in downtown Culpeper hosts live local music and other kid-friendly fun. Best of all, kids get in free.
On June 11th 2016 James River Wine & Music Festival combines both types of fun. Held in downtown Lynchburg at Riverfront Park, the festivities include live music, a wine garden, local-favorite food trucks, and the works of local artists on display and for sale. Get there early to enjoy a whole day of fun – it all starts at 11 a.m.
